Nora Frisk
Ms. Frisk holds a bachelor of music degree in viola performance from the University of Illinois and a master of music degree in viola performance from the University of Wisconsin. She has been principal violist of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra since 1987, and also performs as a contracted musician with the Kalamazoo Symphony. She has performed throughout the mid-west and made her New York debut with the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
Though Ms. Frisk has a classical background, she also enjoys other genres of music, which she explores with the LaSte’Duo. This duo, comprised of viola and steel drums, does concerts, programs, and educational concerts performing such genres as reggae, calypso, classical, and popular. They have recently commissioned a work for viola, steel drums and orchestra.
In 2000, she was appointed adjunct viola professor at Notre Dame University and was formally at Valparaiso University in the same position. She also has a large private studio of over 30+ students. Also a classical chamber musician, she enjoys performing with the Stringsound Ensembles, which is based in the Northwest Indiana Area.
In between lessons and performances, Ms. Frisk enjoys reading, gardening, and a number of athletic activities. Being an active teacher and free-lancer, Ms. Frisk brings a creative style, powerful playing and intense personal expression with her wherever she performs.
