Dietrich-ReedSusan Dietrich-Reed is Music Director at the Citadel Dance & Music Center currently providing comprehensive music instruction to over 200 students. Susan assumed this position after serving as Arts & Education Director at The Salvation Army for ten years. Susan also served as orchestra director & music educator for 26 years with the Benton Harbor Area Schools where she implemented a successful string program in an urban setting.

Susan is a professional cellist with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and Renaissance Strings in addition to teaching cello privately through the Citadel. She serves as Artist in Residence with the St Joseph Public Schools and is a Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra sectional coach. Susan is a former member of the Northwest Indiana Symphony and subs regularly with the Laporte County Indiana Symphony in addition to other free lancing. Susan serves as an adjudicator for the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association, is a member of many community Arts organizations and is a strong advocate of Arts Education programs in schools.

Susan was the recipient of Benton Harbor’s Outstanding Educator Award twice and received the Golden Acorn Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the Berrien Community Foundation in 1997. Susan was also recognized in 1998 as WCA’s Woman of the Year in Arts & Communication. Susan earned her Bachelors of Arts & Master of Arts degrees from Michigan State University and resides in St. Joseph. Susan serves as a guest clinician for the Michigan American String Teachers Association and MSBOA.
