Matthew Boothe is a double bass teacher and orchestral musician living in Lansing, Michigan. He grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky, and received his Bachelor's of Music degree in Double Bass Performance from the University of Louisville before moving to Michigan to continue graduate studies at Michigan State University. At MSU, he has completed a Master's in Music Performance, and is in the final stages of a Doctorate of the Musical Arts in Performance. He has performed in the bass section of a variety of orchestras throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan, and is currently a regular section member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Assistant Principal Bassist for the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Bassist of the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra.
Teaching has been a part of much of Matthew's life as a musician, starting in high school when he and several others from the orchestra program would regularly lead sectionals and lessons at the nearby middle school. In Louisville, he was one of the founding member's of UofL's American String Teacher's Association chapter, and while at MSU, he worked for several years as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the double bass studio. Throughout his time in Michigan, he has also regularly taught private lessons to a variety of students, ranging from complete beginners to university undergraduate students.
